IN THE BLEAK MIDWINTER

January 12, 2014

Several years ago I wrote The Angel of Clifton #2 as my annual Christmas story. It was about a burnt out rock-a-billy guitar player, Billy Dean Hightower. For the music at the end of the story I asked my brother-in-law Bruce Cash to sing. Of course, he sang a James Taylor song. It wasn’t Fire and Rain nor In my Mind I’m Going to Carolina. Bruce sang In the Bleak Midwinter.

Tonight, that song is playing in my head. Bruce has been taken to the Hospice House. Here in bleak midwinter, his time is short. Beyond here there is eternal spring. Listen to the little verse by Christina Rossetti at the end. Pray for Bruce and my little sister Kitty, for their children and grandchildren, and for Bruce’s mother Ruth.

Here is the song presented by James Taylor and Liberty Bible Fellowship.
