Silent Wednesday
March 27, 2013

But Jesus remained silent. (Matthew 26:63)
Lord Jesus, the Gospels have nothing to say about what you did or said on Holy Wednesday. Maybe you were preparing for the Passover. Maybe you just need some time alone. As much as your words may trouble us, your silence is disconcerting, threatening, and frightening. We avoid silence. We protest with radio and television and every electronic gadget imaginable. Our penchant for noise blocks any notion that silence is one of your gifts of grace.
Gracious Christ, teach me to fall silent. I need this silent Wednesday to remind me of the truth taught by the psalmist, “Be still and know that I am God.”
Amen
